MONTREAL- After 24 years under Gilles Vaillaincourt’s reign, Laval has a new mayor.
Mouvement Lavallois’ Marc Demers, a former police officer led the polls with 44 per cent of the vote.
Former Liberal MNA Jean-Claude Gobé came in second place at 24 per cent.

Demers now has the task of rebuilding Laval’s reputation.
In May, longtime mayor Gilles Vaillancourt was charged with a dozen corruption-related charges, including two counts of gangsterism.
