$20M campaign launched to repatriate Indigenous ceremonial items from Swiss museum
Description
June 28, 2026
A Manitoba-led delegation is working to bring thousands of Indigenous ceremonial and cultural items home from a privately owned museum in Switzerland. The collection, valued at up to $17 million, includes sacred pipes, regalia, headdresses and other items from First Nations across the Prairies, Ontario and the United States. The group hopes to raise $20 million to purchase the collection and return the artifacts to the communities they came from.
