Where’s George? The Dollar Bill Tracker

Have you ever wondered where your money goes after you spend it? Where’s George? can help you find out. After registering with the site, you can enter the serial numbers from your bills. As money falls into the hands of different users, they enter there serial numbers in turn, and the money is tracked as it moves around the country.

Sounds crazy, huh? And for most bills, little or nothing ever happens. But for some, a detailed map emerges. Check out good ol’ K244—I, which is the top-tracked bill with 15 reported sightings. It was released into the wild in Dayton, Ohio, wandered through the south (and spent a long time in Texas), ventured to Utah, and was last seen someplace in Michigan’s upper peninsula, not too far from where it was first sighted.

As of Sept 9, 2024, Where’s George? is tracking 323,007,333 bills, which simply boggles my mind. Canadians can track their money using Where’s Willy? Similar sites exist for other countries. Check this list (scroll down).

      This is a first for me. I got the one-dollar bill
      and almost put-it in a soda-machine until I found
      the red-ink. I live in Paragould,Ar., just a few-
      miles from Jonesboro. Hope you get this, George
      is going on another trip today-via the Soda-
      machine.

    I like the Where’s George website. I even invested $10 in a stamp. I definitely recommend it if you have kids. But I’d warn aspiring users not to get their hopes up: For every 20 bills you mark and distribute, you might get 1 hit back. Lots of people who get your bill won’t visit the website. Take a look at K244—I above and check the “Travel Time” column: It didn’t necessarily take 212 days for that bill to move from Kincheloe to Rudyard; it took that long for another person to visit the website and enter the bill’s serial number.

    It’s cool when you get to watch a bill crawl across the map, but it doesn’t happen as often as you’d like.

    I have been stamping bills with Where’s George site on it for several years. I stop for a while, then pick up the “hobby” again. It’s really quite addicting – and fun when you get an email that says one of your bills have been “hit” and to find out where it has been. Try it yourself!

    I just got G 85940352 D. First heard about this last week from a friend. George started out in Tampa in 2010 and made it up the East Coast as far as Vermont and went back to New Jersey. He’s here now…in Harrisburg PA. Anybody here see this George?

    I found a one dollar George bill at work at Coors field in Denver, Colorado near the fence while picking up trash and I saw the Where’s George been and just now found out where he started from. L43076483N, 2006 L. It started in Utah.

    Folks… Please do not post the full serial numbers of bills you find. It allows those who would do such things to create false entries. Please replace at least three of the digits with dash marks.

    I will be alerting our webmaster about the bills listed here.

    I have been georging for nearly 13 years and am currently #1 in Idaho. And yes, it is a very addicting hobby.

    I been playing around with Where’s George for several years. Marked a few now and then and found and entered some along the way. I have started marking some and giving them back in change from sales at my little store and RV park in the mountains of Arkansas. Yesterday I made up a counter poster to explain Where’s George and how easy to enter one without giving personal info. Now some come back in and ask if I have one because they didn’t get one in their change. I only let 3 or 4 a day go out to traveling tourist. Been doing this 2 weeks now. Just got a hit on a bill I entered july 2010. Hit in Little Rock AR. Levenworth KS. then 4 years later July 2015 at Deadwood ND. Ain’t this FUN.
